Philippians: Shine!

Phil 2:12-30
1. Shine it up! v15 Because of Jesus, we should be different (look different than those in the world).
2. Work it out! v12 "work out your salvation in fear and trembling." This is not working for your salvation, that had already been done. Eph 2:8-9 Justification - the gift of being saved by Jesus, Sanctification - the process of becoming more like Jesus (practicing/using the gift of salvation you've been given), Glorification - being glorified in heaven. Rom 8:28-31
3. God is in control. v13 We don't have to do this alone, we are constantly leaning into God in order to be changed.
4. It's impossible to shine when you're full of whine. Phil 2:14 No grumbling, arguing or complaining. Num 14:1-4. v17-18

Philippians: Others First

Acts 2:42-47 We need to be that kind of church.
Phil 4:2-3 There was a division in the Philippian church.
Phil 2:1-11
v1 Therefore... Paul is pointing back to Phil 1:27 "conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the Gospel of Christ." If - better words would be since or because.
1. We are to be unified. v2 Paul's joy would be if the church would act as one.
2. We are to be humble. v3 value others above ourselves. Let's quit trying to impress each other.
3. We are to be servants. v4 don't look to my own interests, but look to the interests of others. Actively look for ways to serve others. The greatest path to humility is to serve others.
4. We are to be like Jesus. v5-11 humble, servant, obedient.
